Maria Gabrys

Maria Gabryś was born into a family of musicians in Warsaw and began to play the piano at an early age. She completed her musical education as a pianist at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw with Teresa Manasterska and with Ivan Klánsky at the Musikhochschule in Lucerne, Switzerland, graduating with distinction. Gabryś has participated in masterclasses with Andrzej Jasiński, Rudolf Buchbinder, Murray Perahia, Marcello Abbado, Andrei Gavrilov and Kristian Bezuidenhout. Her fascination with period instruments led her back to Switzerland, where she studied historical performance practice with Jesper Christensen at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis of the Basel Musikhochschule. Gabryś has won prizes at numerous competitions, including the international Chopin competitions in Antonin (Poland), Göttingen, Germany, and Mariánské Lázně, Czech Republic. She won first prize at the Beethoven Competition in Hradec, Czech Republic and the Edwin Fischer Competition in Lucerne, Switzerland. In 2006 Gabryś was awarded the City of Lucerne Mozart Prize and in 2012 won first prize in the historical instruments category at the Golden Ring Chopin Competition in Slovenia. Maria Gabryś uses a variety of keyboard instruments in her chamber music and solo concert performances at major music venues around Europe, the US, South Korea and Japan. She has made numerous recordings for Swiss and Polish Radio and has been invited to participate in music festivals including the Chopin Festival in Vienna, Mittel-Fest in
