Born in Lisbon in 1973, Marcos Magalhães began harpsichord lessons at the age of eleven, studying with Cremilde Rosado Fernandes and Kjetil Haugsand. After obtaining the diploma of the Escola Superior de Música of Lisbon, he was admitted to the Paris Conservatoire National supérieur de musique et de danse, where he studied with Kenneth Gilbert, Christophe Rousset and Kenneth Weiss, graduating with the 1er Prix in 1999. In 1997 he performed with the European Baroque Orchestra and in Rameauʼs opera Platée, staged in Lisbon with an international cast. He has given many concerts in Lisbon and in a number of European cities, as a soloist and in chamber groups, including the Ensemble Barroco do Chiado (Lisbon), with which he toured in India and Sri Lanka in 2003. He has performed in many opera productions and with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Madeira Orchestra and European Baroque Orchestra. He has been an associate member of the Orquestra Metropolitana in Lisbon. He is the founder of Músicos do Tejo, an ensemble devoted to Portuguese baroque repertoire, performances of which he normally conducts. With a scholarship from FCT he has been undertaking research on the Modinhas for a doctorate at the Universidade Nova, Lisbon.
