The Irish poet Thomas Moore won wide fame for his collection of Irish melodies, often adapted musically and verbally by him, and his poems that served as inspiration to many composers, including Anton Rubinstein, Schumann, Berlioz, Mendelssohn ad Stanford, among many others. He sang himself, recited, and did much to arouse interest in Irish tradition, parallel to the contemporary interest aroused by Burns and Scott for the traditions of Scotland.
