Laura Whalen has made her mark as a lyric soprano whose performances are notable for beauty of tone and musical finesse. Chosen to create the title rôle in the world première of Estacio's Filumena, she has been hailed in Spain, Germany, Latin America and the United States. She has appeared at the Kennedy Center in D.C., at Canada's National Arts Centre, and at the Harris Center for Music and Dance in Chicago in such works as Carmina Burana, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream. In the Canadian Opera Company's Ring Cycle, she was heard as the Waldvogel and Woglinde, and other rôles include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Mimì in La Bohème, Norina in Don Pasquale and Juliette in Roméo et Juliette. She also performs with the Toronto Symphony, Chicago Opera Theatre, the Florida Orchestra, Washington Choral Arts Society, Vancouver Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, Calgary Opera and Opera Ontario.
