Joaquín Riquelme García was born in 1983 in Murcia, where he entered the Manuel Masotti Litel Conservatorio Superior at the age of eight, studying with Pedro Navarro and graduating with honours under Antonio J. Clares. His final studies were at the RCSMM with Emilio Mateu and Alan Kovacs, followed by concert studies at the Berlin Universität der Künste with Hartmut Rohde. He has appeared as a soloist with various orchestras in Spain and in Germany and as a recitalist throughout Spain and participated in master-courses with Bruno Giuranna, Jesse Levine, Harmut Rohde, Ashan Pillai, Enrique Santiago, Emilio Mateu, Alexander Bobrovsky, Christian Euler, Mihail Kopelman and Jordi Mora, among others. He was awarded first prizes at the International Festival of Youth Orchestras in Murcia, in the Tomás Lestán Viola Competition and first and special prize in the Viola-Cello section of the VII Concurso Villa de Llanes, and also the Carl Flesch Academy Prize. He was a soloist in the Concurso Permanente de Juventudes Musicales. He is known as a chamber-music player and serves as assistant principal in the Orquesta Sinfónica de Barcelona y Nacional de Cataluña.
