Joaquin Pixan (b1950)

Born in Cangas del Narcea (Asturias), Joaquín Pixán won his first competition, organized by Spanish Radio, at the age of 13. He began his studies at the Escuela de Arte Dramático in Madrid, followed by vocal studies with Carmen Pérez-Durías, Lola Rodríguez Aragón, Felix Lavilla and Miguel Zanetti (his tutor when he was awarded the Humboldt Scholarship). In 1979 he entered the La Scala Milan School, studying with Gina Cigna, and in 1982 he won the Miguel Fleta Singing Competition for Tenors, in Zaragoza (Spain). He made his début at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, singing the rôle of José Miguel in El Caserío by Guridi. Later he premiered a stage musical on the life of Maxim Gorky, with music by Moreno Buendía, closing that season with Los Gavilanes by Guerrero. He has also recorded different programs for a number of international television companies, such as the one for Belgian TV, with its clearly defined educational purpose, which has been used on a number of occasions aimed at different levels of the educational system. Joaquín Pixán has already made over 15 recordings, such as Madre Asturias with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Jesús López Cobos, which was later premiered live at the Teatro Real in Madrid, and Ave María, which includes some of the most beautiful works inspired by the Virgin Mary, with the English Chamber Orchestra and pianist Alejandro Zabala.
