Jascha Nemtsov (b1963)


The pianist/musicologist Jascha Nemtsov was born in Siberia and grew up in St Petersburg. He graduated from the St Petersburg State Conservatory with distinction. He is internationally respected for his lectures and masterclasses. Jascha Nemtsov is a member of the School of Jewish Studies at the University of Potsdam and of the Editorial Board of the Milken Archive of Jewish Music. Since 2010 he has been academic director of the Cantorial School of the Abraham Geiger College, Potsdam University, and in 2013 was appointed professor for History of Jewish Music at the Weimar Liszt School of Music. His CD featuring violin sonatas by Shostakovich and Weinberg with Kolja Blacher, was awarded the German Record Critics Prize.
