Ilya Rachkovsky began to perform his own compositions for piano at the age of six and studied from 1993 to 2000 at the Novosibirsk Special Music School and with Mary Lebenzon. He won first prize in the 1998 Vladimir Krainev International Pianists Competition, second prize at the 2001 Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition and first prizes at the Valsesia-Musica, Jaen and Hong Kong International Competitions, with a further award at the 2007 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. He has performed in several important concert venues in Europe, Japan, and Russia, including the Bolshoy Hall of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the Paris Théâtre du Châtelet and Salle Gaveau, Osaka Symphony Hall, and Amsterdam Concertgebouw. He has collaborated as a soloist with the Czech National Symphony, the New Japan Symphony, and the Orchestre National de Lille. Ilya Rachkovsky has studied since 2000 with Vladimir Krainev at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover.
