Update me on new releases by Jadlowker

Hermann Jadlowker (1877 - 1953)

Although Hermann Jadlowker joined the choir of the Great Synagogue in Riga when young, his father was strongly opposed to his son’s desire to sing in opera and so to pursue a career on the stage. As a result when Jadlowker was sixteen he ran away from home to Vienna, where he came into contact with Rabbi Schorr of the main synagogue and the father of bass-baritone Friedrich Schorr. He joined the synagogue’s choir and, now reconciled with his father, enrolled at the Vienna Conservatory where he studied with Joseph Gänsbacher, graduating in 1897. Jadlowker made his operatic stage debut in the same year at Cologne, as Gomez in Kreutzer’s Das Nachtlager in Granada, but stayed in Cologne for only a single season before working in small theatres such as those of Köngisberg, Rostock and Stettin.

In 1901 Jadlowker joined the opera company of his native city, Riga, where he made his debut as Léopold / La Juive. He remained at Riga for five seasons during which he sang a mainly lyric tenor repertoire, in roles such as Georges Brown / La Dame blanche, Almaviva / Il barbiere di Siviglia, Froh / Das Rheingold, Lensky / Eugene Onegin and the Marquis / Zar und Zimmermann, to name just a few. While in Riga Jadlowker married in 1903 and served as a cantor. By the end of his time there he was singing heavier roles such as Eléazar / La Juive, Radamès / Aida and the title part in Lohengrin.
