Update me on new releases by Dalla Rizza

Gilda Dalla Rizza (1892 - 1975)

Gilda dalla Rizza studied singing with V. Ricci and G. Orefice in Bologna. She made her debut in 1912 when only nineteen at the Teatro Verdi, Bologna as Charlotte / Werther and a year later took part in the first performances of the operas La leggenda delle sette torri (Gasco) and Uguale Fortuna (Tommasini) at the Teatro Costanzi, Rome. She returned to Rome frequently: early appearances there included the title roles in Iris (Mascagni) and Manon Lescaut (Puccini). Dalla Rizza’s debut at La Scala, Milan came in 1915 as Yaroslavna / Prince Igor, followed by the title role in Mascagni’s Isabeau and Maddalena / Andrea Chénier.

Her first appearance at the Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires also occurred in 1915. Dalla Rizza sang there for eight seasons until 1930; highlights included the local premieres of Der Rosenkavalier, in which she sang Octavian (1915) and Lodoletta (Mascagni), in which she sang the title part opposite Caruso (1917). Between 1914 and 1933 she also sang regularly at Rio de Janeiro, where a notable role was Giordano’s Fedora, which she later recorded complete.
