Gerald Finley (b1960)

GRAMMY® Award-winning Canadian baritone Gerald Finley was born in Montreal, sang as a chorister in Ottawa, and completed his training in Britain. He has performed Mozart’s baritone rôles throughout Europe and North America and has broadened his repertoire with acclaimed performances of Hans Sachs, Amfortas, Iago and Guillaume Tell. He has created new leading rôles, most notably J. Robert Oppenheimer in Adams’ Doctor Atomic (awarded the 2012 GRAMMY® for ‘Best Opera Recording’), Howard K. Stern in Turnage’s Anna Nicole, Harry Heegan in The Silver Tassie (for which he won the 2001 RPS Singer of the Year), and as Jaufré Rudel in Kaija Saariaho’s L’amour de loin. Concert appearances include all the major European orchestras, and world premières in North America. An acclaimed recitalist, his solo CD releases with Julius Drake have presented many renowned song composers. He is a three-time winner of Gramophone’s Solo Vocal Award.
