Francesco Piemontesi (b1983)

Born in 1983 in Switzerland, Francesco Piemontesi studied in Hanover with Arie Vardi and gained inspiration from his encounters with Alfred Brendel, Cécile Ousset, Mitsuko Uchida and Alexis Weissenberg. He is the recipient of numerous international prizes, including the Brussels Queen Elisabeth Prize, and in September 2009 was selected as a BBC New Generation Artist. Guest appearances at international festivals have included the Ludwigsburg Schlossfestspiele, Schleswig-Holstein, BBC Proms, City of London Festival, Martha Argerich Project, the Ruhr and Roque d’Anthéron, with performances at the Vienna Konzerthaus, Zürich Tonhalle, Munich Herkulessaal, and Carnegie Hall. He has collaborated with conductors and orchestras including Jiří Belohlavek, Sakari Oramo, Dmitri Kitajenko, Mikhail Pletnev, Christoph Poppen, Bruno Weil and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Tonkünstler Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, Prague Symphony and many others, and in chamber music with colleagues of distinction. His most recent recording is a two-CD set of works by Robert Schumann for Claves.
