Fernando Viani was born in 1969 in Mendoza, Argentina, and began his musical studies at the age of eight. He completed his piano studies with distinction at la Escuela Superior de Música de la Universidad Nacional de Cuyo under the supervision of Dora De Marinis.
During these years he won the first prize in the Lincoln Concurso Pianistico and in the Concurso del Centro de Estudios Pianísticos, the gold medal in the Concurso Alberto Williams (Buenos Aires) for the best performance of works by an Argentinian composer and the first position awarded by the University Symphony Orchestra as a soloist.
In 1992 and 1993 Fernando Viani was invited to participate in the International Chamber Music Festival of Bariloche, Argentina, where he gave concerts, worked with teachers including Carlo Bruno, Ana Chumachenco and Oscar Lysy, and received musical advice from Bruno Gelber.
In 1993 he embarked on an intensive research and recording project together with other pianists and singers, resulting in thirteen compact discs with the complete piano works of the Argentinian composers Luis Gianneo, Juan José Castro and Carlos Guastavino. In 1999 he won a recording contract with Naxos. He continued his education at the Karlsruhe Musikhochschule, Germany, where he benefited from studying with Fanny Solter and Dinorah Varsi, and, above all, Sontraud Speidel.
Fernando Viani has appeared with the Baden-Baden Phiharmonic, the U.N.C. Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Entre Ríos, and has performed in numerous recitals in the United States, Germany, England, Italy, France, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Spain, Norway, India, Jamaica and Canada. His concerts have been broadcast on Argentine National Radio and the Karlsruhe Musikhochschule Radio.
Fernando Viani teaches students who are successful in national and international competitions, and is the founder of the Melvin Musikakademie for gifted children. With the Melvin Trio he is also involved with master-classes and the artistic direction of chamber music festivals in Germany.
