Diane Kesling


The mezzo-soprano Diane Kesling has had distinguished engagements with many of the world’s leading houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, l’Opéra de Nice, Houston Grand Opera, La Scala, and Seattle Opera, in addition to appearances with the Boston Symphony and Pittsburgh Symphony, as well as the Kennedy Center. She has performed in over forty productions at the Metropolitan Opera, including Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, and Wellgunde in The Ring of the Nibelung under James Levine, a performance that was internationally telecast, and subsequently released on compact disc. Other notable engagements include performances in Salome and Elektra with the Boston Symphony and Seiji Ozawa, in Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music and Schubert’s Mass in E flat with the Boston Symphony under the baton of Charles Dutoit, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with Lorin Maazel and the Pittsburgh Symphony. She also created the rôle of Dinah in the première of Leonard Bernstein’s opera A Quiet Place at the Houston Grand Opera, La Scala, and the Kennedy Center. She is a graduate of Ohio State University, the Houston Opera Studio, and the Metropolitan Opera’s Young Artist Program.
