Diana Schmid was born in Augsburg and studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden, completing her training at the Hochschule für Musik in Mainz in 2008. She attended masterclasses with Shirley Verrett at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, with Julia Hamari in Stuttgart, Claudia Rüggeburg in Wavre and Thomas Heyer in Cologne. She was a prizewinner in the International Gottlob Frick Singing Competition, winning the prize of the Bruno Frey Foundation. She also won the Gerd and Margarethe Krämmer Prize and the Mainz Theatre Culture Foundation Prize. She held an award from the Richard Wagner Scholarship Foundation. Her engagements have included rôles in Humperdinck’s Die Königskinder for the Radio France Festival and in Monteverdi’s Orfeo for Frankfurt Opera. Her concert appearances have included Mendelssohn’s Elijah in Cologne Cathedral and Mozart’s Mass in C minor in Hamburg.
