Deborah Wood

Deborah Wood was born in Michigan, USA. She began to play the piano at a very early age and from the age of 13 she studied at the Interlochen Arts Academy, Western Michigan Academy, Michigan State University Academy, University of Michigan Academy. During 1971-72, she studied with Professor Pierre Sancan at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris. 1975 she settled in Paris where she continued her musical studies with Claude Helffer, Marie-Françoise Bucquet and Jean Fassina, and participated in masterclasses with Leon Fleischer and the Amadeus Quartet. Early in her professional life in Europe, she started intense studies of contemporary music, and has had close collaboration with many French composers, such as François Leclère - for whom she has premiered all of his piano works between 1979 and 1994 - Claude Abromont, Pascal Garnichat, Olivier Renaudet, Frank La Douce and Alain Feron. Deborah Wood has worked in many chamber music groups from duos to chamber ensembles, many of which she formed herself. Her growing interest in Nordic composers, made her moved to Denmark in 1995 to make this the basis for her future work.
