Update me on new releases by Canonici

Corrado Canonici

Corrado Canonici has blazed a startling new trail for the double-bass as a solo and chamber instrument, fearlessly tackling new repertoire encompassing and fusing experimentalism, improvisation, jazz and ‘world’ music. His training was with Bruno Tommano at the Conservatory Rossini in Pesaro and he also benefitted from masterclasses with bassists Franco Petracchi and Gary Karr. An internationally successful soloist, he has himself become a teacher much in demand, particularly in US institutions.

New and experimental music after 1945 has of course provided exposure (and something of a niche market) for less conventional solo instruments such as the double-bass, as well as prompting innovation in technique. All of this has been embraced with relish by Canonici who has delivered a number of first performances and recordings of works by such well-known figures as Berio and Stockhausen, as well as promoting music by many emerging and less prominent composers. He also works with such leading UK ensembles as Endymion, Matrix, Apartment House and Music Project/London.
