Christian Barthen

The German organist Christian Barthen has been a prizewinner in a number of international organ competitions, including the Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Wiesbaden, the International Organ Competition of St Maurice dʼAgaune (Switzerland) and the Grand Prix de Chartres (France). His career as a performer takes him frequently to international festivals and concert series throughout Europe, and engagements have included appearances in the cathedrals of Chartres and Le Havre in France, in the cathedrals of Altenberg, Bamberg, Fulda, Mainz, Magdeburg and Osnabrück in Germany, in the Philharmonic Hall of Essen, and in the Stefaniensaal concert hall in Graz, with further invitations to Switzerland, Italy, the Czech Republic and Hungary. While still at school Christian Barthen was a pupil of Wolfgang Rübsam at the University of Music in his native Saarbrücken. After his graduation from high school he studied organ, piano and harpsichord performance, sacred music and music education in Saarbrücken. His principal teachers were the organists Andreas Rothkopf and Wolfgang Rübsam and the pianists Jean Micault and Robert Leonardy. Private studies led him between 2011 and 2012 to Philippe Lefèbvre at Notre Dame in Paris. Since 2012 Christian Barthen has studied in the soloist class of Ludger Lohmann at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart.
