Burkhard Godhoff

Burkhard-W. Godhoff was born in Dinslaken, Germany and received his first violin lessons from his great uncle who was concertmaster in Bochum and chamber music partner of Paul Hindemith. His talent for the instrument was soon discovered. He was accepted at the National Conservatory of Music in Duisburg as a pupil of Prof. H. Chr. Siegert, and in 1970 he was awarded the 1st prize at the national competition “Jugend Musiziert”.

He continued his music edication with Prof. W. Krotzinger at the Folkwang Musikhochchule in Essen. In 1972 he moved to Indiana, USA, to study with Ruggiero Ricci at Indiana University on a scholarship of the national German Industrial Foundation for foreign studies in Cologne. With a scholarship from the Indiana University Foundation and the School of Music of Indiana University he continued his studies with Prof. F. Gulli and Prof. J. Gingold.

After he graduated, Burkhard Godhoff returned to Europe where he had a successful carreer as concert master of orchestras such as the Opera du Rhin in Strasbourg, at the Pfalztheater in Kaiserslautern, at the National Opera in Hannover and at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Duesseldorf, and worked with many great conductors such as Igor Markevitch, Kyril Kondrashin, and Gunther Wand.
