The pianist Biljana Urban comes from a family with a rich musical tradition. Her Czech-born grandfather, Jan Urban, was an opera composer and conductor. She studied at the Academy of Music in Zagreb, at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague (Naum Grubert) and at the Ecole Normal de Paris. She also studied with Elisso Virssaladze, Tatjana Nikolaeva, Eugene Indjic and Karl Heinz Kämmerling. She has given concerts throughout Europe (Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, Vredenburg Utrecht and elsewhere, and has been invited to renowned music festivals such as the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the Festival of Flanders and the Orlando Festival in Holland. She is the recipient of the most important awards of her former country. She has recorded for Radio and Television Zagreb and for Dutch, French and Belgian Television.
