Andrea Tacchi

Born in Florence, Andrea Tacchi studied the violin under Roberto Michelucci and chamber music with Franco Rossi. He played, at a very early age with well known chamber music ensembles, including the Trio di Fiesole and the Nuovo Quartetto, and with concert recitals throughout the world. His repertoire ranges from the baroque to the contemporary and he has given the world premières of a number of works, among others Luciano Berio’s Corale and A spell for a green corn by Peter Maxwell-Davies, under the direction of the composers. From 1977 to 1995 he was a principal professor of violin at the Florence Cherubini Conservatory and has been a jury member for important international competitions, including the Florence Premio Vittorio Gui and the Pamplona Pablo de Sarasate. He served as leader of the Orchestra della Toscana from its foundation, also appearing as a soloist and in the chamber ensemble I Solisti dell’ORT. He has collaborated with distinguished colleagues, including Vladimir Spivakov, Dino Asciolla, Boris Belkin, Michele Campanella, Giuliano Carmignola, Myung-Whun Chung, Uto Ughi, Alexander Lonquich, and Richard Galliano. Since 1999 he has appeared regularly as guest leader of the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala. He plays an instrument by Antonio Gragnani, dated 1763.
