Anthony Byrne

Anthony Byrne, piano

Born in Dublin in 1958, Anthony Byrne is one of Ireland's busiest and most versatile musicians. Following initial studies in Ireland with Marie Jones and John O'Conor, he studied with Peter Katin at the University of Western Ontario and with the internationally acclaimed piano teacher, Adele Marcus in New York, also studying conducting with Vincent de Selva at the Juilliard School. He completed his formal studies in London with Alexander Kelly.

To date he has performed allover Ireland, in Europe, America, Canada and Japan. While in Japan in 1993 he was awarded the Ishibashi Zogoro Scholarship for International Cultural Relations and was invited to give a series of lectures, masterclasses and recitals, all to great critical acclaim. A regular soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, he has given the first performance of many concertos including the Irish premiere of Leroy Anderson's Piano Concerto and Raymond Deane's works for piano and orchestra, Compact and Quaternion. No stranger to radio and television, he has compiled and presented four programmes for RTÉ Radio under the title Pianists Past and Present and a special documentary on the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and conductor Alexander Anissimov for RTÉ television.
