Nat Yontararak

Nat Yontararak, born in 1954, studied at the prestigious Bangkok Christian College. He started to learn the piano when he was nine and later became the student of Acharn Pantipa Treepoonpol. He won the first prize in the first Siam Music Festival when he was sixteen. Though an architect by training, a graduate of Chulalongkorn University, Nat Yontararak opted for a musical career by studying music at Goldsmiths' College in London, going on to win a scholarship and a British Council support grant for further study in Piano Performance at Reading University. While there, he also received special grant from H.H. Princess Sudasiri Sobha. On his return to Thailand in 1983, Nat Yontararak set up his own "Nat Studio" and "Nat Music School" to promote classical music and to teach young classical pianists. Between teaching, and composing he also gives concert regularly both in Thailand and abroad. He was very honoured that the sonata Glory to Our Great Kings was presented at the United Nations in New York as part of the commemoration of the fiftieth session of the United Nations General Assembly in October 1995.
