Horacio Ferrer (b1933)

In 1967, accompanied by guitarist Agustin Carlevaro, poet and reciter Horacio Ferrer recorded poems from his Romancero canyengue for the independent Argentinian record label Trova. As a result of this recording, Piazzolla invited him to write together, which they did until 1973. The first fruit of their collaboration was the operetta María de Buenos Aires, which received its première in 1968 in Buenos Aires. Throughout 1969, a series of tangos known as baladas were produced. Of these, Balada para un loco proved to be a resounding success, the first broad-based success Piazzolla was to experience.
