Niklas Sivelov (b1968)

Niklas Sivelöv made his soloist début in 1991 with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic performing Bartók’s Second Piano Concerto. Since then he has collaborated with conductors including Esa-Pekka Salonen, Leif Segerstam, Thomas Dausgaard, Jukka Pekka Saraste, Kees Bakels, Alan Gilbert, Paavo Berglund and Kazufumi Yamashita. He has performed with leading orchestras in Scandinavia and throughout Europe. As a chamber musician he has given recitals in major venues all over the world, working with Mark Peskanov, Leonid Gorokhov, Martin Fröst, Patrick Gallois and Malena Ernman. His recording of his own improvisations over Bellman’s music received the important Independent Music Awards, the first Swede ever to win the prize for the best classical album and winner of the audience poll, a component of the 8th IMA programme. The first Swedish pianist elected to the Steinway Hall of Fame, he has received the Diapason d’Or (Berwald’s Piano Concerto), a Cannes nomination for best twentieth-century recording (Einar Englund’s Piano Concerto No. 1) among other honours. Niklas Sivelöv is a professor of the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen.
