Born in Los Angeles, California, Ms Shulman graduated magna cum laude from California State University at Northridge.
Principal Flautist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra since 1986, she joined the Orchestra in 1974.
She has been an Associate Fellow at the Berkshire Music Center in Tanglewood, Co-Principal Flute of the Aspen Chamber Symphony at the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado and for two years held the post of Second Flute with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.
A very active performer, Ms Shulman has appeared at the Guelph Spring Festival, on the Faculty Artists’ series of the University of Toronto, with the Amici Chamber Ensemble and on Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio.
Soloist appearances in recent years have included concerts with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
For Naxos Nora Shulman has recorded with her colleague at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Judy Loman, a delightful collection of romantic music for harp and flute entitled Dance of the Blessed Spirits.
