After studying violin at the Conservatoire in Rennes and singing at the Conservatoire de Paris with Jane Berbie, in 1996 bass Nicolas Courjal joined the company of the Jeune Théâtre Lyrique de France of the Paris Opéra Comique, and then Wiesbaden Opera. At the Théâtre du Châtelet he was heard in Richard Strauss’s Arabella along with Karita Mattila; with Thomas Hampson (Arthaus DVD), in Berlioz’s Les Troyens conducted by John Elliot Gardiner (Teldec DVD); in Wagner’s Tannhäuser; and more recently in Massenet’s Thaïs with Renée Fleming and Christoph Eschenbach.
