Gilbert Rowland

"Gilbert Rowland is one of the best performers of Rameau's works that I have encountered." Classical Express.

Gilbert Rowland was born in Glasgow in 1946. He studied the harpsichord with Millicent Silver at the Royal College of Music and made his debut while still a student at Fenton House, following this soon afterwards with recitals at the Wigmore Hall.

Further recitals at the Purcell Room, performances at major festivals in Britain and abroad, together with broadcasts for BBC Radio 3 and Capital Radio, have helped to establish his reputation as one of Britain's leading harpsichordists.

His recordings of works by Soler and Fischer and his numerous Scarlatti recordings have received considerable acclaim from the musical press.

Gilbert Rowland has been recording for Naxos since 1994, during which year he recorded the complete harpsichord works of Rameau on two CDs. His 13-CD set of the complete sonatas of Soler (begun in 1995) continues, and he will record all the harpsichord suites of Handel when the current recording project of Soler is completed.
