Born in Pavia, Bruno Taddia took his violin diploma at the Conservatory of Genoa and studied Experimental Composition at the Conservatory of Milan. He studied singing under the guidance of Paolo Montarsolo and attended drama courses held by Lorenzo Minelli (1996-98). He studies Philosophy at the University in Milano. After starting his musical activity as a violinist, in 2000 he was selected to attend the interpretation course of La Cenerentola, with Gianluigi Gelmetti, by the Accademia Chigiana in Siena in order to perfect the role of Dandini.
In 2001 he attended the ‘Accademia Rossiniana’ courses at Rossini Opera Festival under the guidance of Alberto Zedda. Again in Pesaro, he made his debut as Don Alvaro in Il viaggio a Reims, under the baton of Antonino Fogliani and directed by Emilio Sagi, and was subsequently engaged for Il barbiere di Siviglia directed by Dario Fo in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Eindhoven.
Bruno Taddia won the As.Li.Co International Competition in 2002 for the role of Taddeo in L’Italiana in Algeri. In the same year he attended a master class of Claudio Desderi, and was a finalist at the “Toti Dal Monte” International Competition in Treviso for the role of Dandini in La Cenerentola. In June 2002 he sang Gaudenzio in Il signor Bruschino in Cagli, and Taddeo in L’Italiana in Algeri (staged by Pier Luigi Pizzi) in Pavia, Como, Cremona, Brescia and Ravenna. He ended the season in Genova (Teatro Gustavo Modena) and Munich (Kuenstlerhaus) singing the title role of Gianni Schicchi.
The the 2003/2004 season saw his performances of Ping(Turandot) and Don Bartolo(Il barbiere di Siviglia) in the theatres of Cremona, Brescia, Como, Pisa and Ravenna. He sang with the Orchestra Verdi in Il Maestro di cappella at the Auditorium of Milan, Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore) at the Teatro Carlo Felice of Genova and Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia)at Le Ruinas do Carmo in Lisbon and Raimondo Lopez(Matilde di Shabran) directed by Mario Martone for the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. In the following year he returned to Cremona, Brescia, Pavia, Ravenna to sing Dulcamara and to Pisa, Lucca and Livorno to sing Dandini. In 2005 he interpreted, among others, Don Quichotte (El Retablo de maese Pedro) at the Teatro Sociale in Como, Bruschino padre (Il Signor Bruschino) in Milano, Macrobio (La pietra del paragon) in Freiburg and at the Opéra de Rennes, Don Bartolo(Il barbiere di Siviglia) at the Teatro dell’Opera in Roma under Gianluigi Gelmetti. He also met with great success as Don Pomponio in La gazzetta (staged by Dario Fo) at the Teatre de Liceu in Barcelona.
In the 2006 season he sang Don Micco(I finti filosofi) in Jesi, Taddeo L’Italiana in Algeri) in Treviso, Mamma Agata(Le convenienze e inconvenienze teatrali) at the Semper Oper Dresden, Gamberotto(L’equivoco stravagante) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin conducted by Alberto Zedda, Don Bartolo(Le nozze di Figaro) in Lugano, Gianni Schicchi and Parlatore eterno in Fano. He also sang the role of Ping in Turandot (staged by Pier Luigi Pizzi) at the Macerata Festival 2006, debuted at the Wexford Festival Opera inIl Marchese Don Giulio Antiquati(L’Ajo nell’imbarazzo) and Dottor Malatesta(Don Pasquale) under Riccardo Muti at the Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna.
In 2007 he sang Taddeoat the Palm Beach Opera and subsequently at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Bruschino padre with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Roma and L’antennista in the new opera by Fabio Vacchi, La madre del mostro, first staged at the Teatro dei Rozzi in Siena. He returned to the Rossini Opera Festival 2007 withProsdocimo (Il Turco in Italia), took part as Okçuoglu in the world première of Teneke by Fabio Vacchi at the Teatro alla Scala, sang Dottor Malatesta(Don Pasquale) in Tenerife and Don Alfonso(Così fan tutte) at the Teatro dell’Opera in Roma, Prosdocimo at the Deutsche Oper am Rheim in Düsseldorf and at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Il Marchese Don Giulio Antiquati at the Teatro della Fortuna in Fano, Belcore(L’elisir d’amore) at the Palm Beach Opera
Apart from his busy operatic career, Bruno Taddia also maintains a busy concert schedule. He sang, among others, in Mozart’s Requiem under Romano Gandolfi with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano “Giuseppe Verdi”, Haydn’s Stabat Mater and Ponchielli’s Messa Solenne with “I Pomeriggi Musicali” Orchestra of Milan. He also sang vocal compositions by Debussy, Chausson, Ravel, Milhaud, Poulenc, Reger, Tosti, Zandonai, Respighi, Ponchielli, Leoncavallo and Lieder by Schubert, Brahms and Schumann. Recent engagements include Dandini in Charleston and Figaro(Il Barbiere di Siviglia) at the Caramoor Festival in New York.
Forthcoming engagements include Figaro(Il Barbiere di Siviglia) at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Almaviva(Le nozze di Figaro) and Don Giovanni at the Deutsche Oper am Rheim di Düsseldorf. 2009 sees his début at the Metropolitan Opera in Turandot (Ping) and as Gianni Schicchi. At theThéâtre du Capitole in Toulouse he will sing Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, in Santiago del Chile Dottor Malatesta in Don Pasquale.
