Gerlinde Samann (b1969)


The blind soprano Gerlinde Sämann was born in Nuremberg in 1969 and studied piano and singing at the Munich Richard Strauss Conservatory with KarlHeinz Jarius, Henriette Meyer-Ravenstein und Selma Aykan. Her repertoire ranges from historical works, Lieder and oratorio to the avant-garde and contemporary music-theatre. In 2000 she was awarded a scholarship by the Munich Regional Capital for her cultural work. In 1999 she appeared at the Schloss Rheinsberg Opera Festival in Poulenc’s La voix humaine and she has appeared in concert with the Dresdner Kreuzchor, the Choeur de Chambre Accentus, the Medieval ensemble Estampie, Armonico Tributo Austria, and Arsyis Bourgogne, among others. In 2002/2003 she made a guest appearance at the Theater Neumarkt in Zürich, in Otto Kukla’s dramatic presentation of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, a production seen also in St Petersburg and Moscow. With La Petite Bande under Sigiswald Kuijken she performed Bach solo cantatas at the Opéra de Bordeaux. In summer 2004 she sang the rôle of Euridice in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice.
