Biava Quartet

Hyunsu Ko

Violinist Hyunsu Ko began her violin studies at the age of four in her native South Korea, where she won numerous prizes at Jeju-Korea Broadcasting System Music Competition, Chosun Newspaper Music Competition, Ewha Kyounghyang Music Competition and Hankook Newspaper Music Competition. She was also awarded the grand prize at the Ahn Ik-Tae Music Competition, resulting in her début performance with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra at the Sejong Music Hall. She also has appeared with the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, Korean Chamber Ensemble and Jeju Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mary Persin

Mary Persin, founding member and violist of the Biava Quartet, has received numerous awards and was featured in a live radio broadcast on the Performance Pittsburgh Series as winner of the Pittsburgh Concert Society Major Auditions. She made her solo début with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in Heinz Hall in 1997. In addition, she has also appeared with the Pittsburgh and Westmoreland Youth Symphonies and was most recently invited to perform as soloist with the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra, performing Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante in collaboration with Austin Hartman. She has also appeared as soloist with the Erie Philharmonic and cellist Zuill Bailey in Strauss’s Don Quixote.

Jason Calloway

Jason Calloway has performed to acclaim throughout North America, the Caribbean, Europe, and the Middle East as soloist and chamber musician. He has collaborated in chamber music with members of the Curtis, Juilliard, and Miami quartets and appears across the U.S. as a artistic director of Shir Ami, an ensemble devoted to the music of Holocaust composers, and In Freundschaft, a duo with trombonist, Steve Parker. A devoted advocate of contemporary music, he has given hundreds of premières of solo and ensemble works and collaborated intensively with many of today’s leading composers. A native of Philadelpia, he is a graduate of the Juilliard School and the University of Southern California.
