Anthony Dean Griffey


Grammy Award-winning American tenor Anthony Dean Griffey has captured critical and popular acclaim on opera, concert and recital stages worldwide. He has performed leading rôles at the Metropolitan, Chicago Lyric, San Francisco, Houston Grand, Santa Fe, Glyndebourne and Paris operas. His acclaimed performance of the title rôle of Peter Grimes with the Metropolitan Opera was simulcast and recorded for future DVD release; his performance in Kurt Weill’s Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny under James Conlon earned two 2009 Grammy Awards. Orchestral engagements in season 2008/09 include appearances with the orchestras of Atlanta, Boston, London, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Montreal, Munich, New York, Paris, Philadelphia, Saint Louis, San Francisco and Tokyo, performing a varied repertoire including Zemlinsky’s Eine florentinische Tragödie, Britten’s War Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Elias and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, among many others. He has been featured on live television broadcasts of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with Seiji Ozawa for the 1998 Winter Olympics and Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde with Christoph Eschenbach as part of the BBC Proms. Griffey’s numerous recordings include André Previn’s A Streetcar Named Desire (Deutsche Grammophon); Les mamelles de Tirésias, conducted by Seiji Ozawa (Philips); I Lombardi, conducted by James Levine (Decca Records); and Amy Beach’s Cabildo
