Born in Armenia, the bass Arutjun Kotchinian studied music at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Yevgeny Nesterenko and Helmuth Rilling. He has been the winner of several important singing competitions, including the Belvedere Vienna 1995, ARD-Munich 1996, BBC Singer of the World and Plácido Domingo’s “Operalia“ 1997, and the Maria Callas in Athens 1999. After early success in Mozart rôles, he established himself as a major artist with international opera houses and orchestras, notably with La Scala, Milan, Los Angeles Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Teatro La Fenice Venice, and the Liceu Barcelona. In concert he has collaborated with the most distinguished conductors, and has participated in a number of major CD and DVD recordings.
