Julia Severus and Alina Luschtschizkaja first met when studying at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Since then they have been performing as the Aurora Duo and, together with colleagues, as the Aurora Quartet. Invitations for concerts have taken them to the Bayreuth Easter Festival, the Musikfestspiele Potsdam-Sanssouci, the Berlin Konzerthaus, the Oslo Konserthus and Lindeman Hall, the East-West Festival at the Philharmony Zielona Gora, the International Week of Conservatories St Petersburg, the Musiktage Bad Gandersheim and the Kulturfeste Brandenburg. They have given numerous premières and world premières, among them Rodion Shchedrin’s Hommage à Chopin and Wolfgang Plagge’s Mare and Concerto Grosso III. Their CDs with first recordings of Russian and Norwegian piano works have received high critical acclaim.
As a member of the Aurora Quartet, Julia Severus and Alina Luschtschizkaja perform on TCHAIKOVSKY / BALAKIREV / GLAZUNOV: Arrangements for 2 Pianos 8 Hands (8.557717). Julia Severus performs as solo pianist on Naxos’s recording of BIZET: Piano Music (Complete) (8.570831–32).
