Laszlo Fenyo

The Hungarian cellist László Fenyő, born in 1975, in 2004 won the International Pablo Casals Contest in Kronberg, Germany. He has since then performed on the most important stages throughout the world, including the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall, London and the Gasteig in Munich. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in Europe, the Far East and Latin America. In his native Hungary he has long been one of the most sought after soloists, and in 2005 received the highly coveted Franz Liszt Prize awarded by the Hungarian Ministry of Culture, as well as the Junior Prima Prize in 2008. At the age of thirteen he became a junior student with László Mező at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, later continuing his studies in Lübeck with David Geringas and winning various prizes. He subsequently went on to study with Bernard Greenhouse. He gives master-courses all over the world, and since October 2009 has been a lecturer at the Academy of Music and Fine Arts in Frankfurt. He has been principal cellist of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony since 2001, and plays a cello made by Matteo Goffriller from 1695.
