Alfred Muff


Alfred Muff is a regular guest at renowned opera houses and concert halls the world over. Born in Lucerne, he studied at Lucerne Conservatory and later at the Musikhochschule Berlin. His performances of the most varied of rôles from the baritone repertoire during his already long-term engagement by Zurich Opera House have drawn much attention from the public and press. International activities have led him to perform in concert with many celebrated orchestras and eminent conductors including Claudio Abbado, Herbert Blomstedt, James Conlon, Christoph von Dohnányi, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Eliahu Inbal, Erich Leinsdorf, Zubin Metha, Georges Prêtre, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Jeffrey Tate, Armin Jordan, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Sir Georg Solti, Horst Stein Gerd Albrecht and Franz Welser-Möst.

Alfred Muff’s career has included engagements with the Viennese State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Dresden State Opera, L’Opéra de Paris, Bastille Opera House in Paris, German Opera Berlin, Staatsoper unter den Linden in Berlin, Cologne Opera, San Francisco Opera, Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, NHK Tokyo, RAI Torino, as well as the music festivals in Taormina and Aix-en-Provence and the Vienna Festival Weeks. Alfred Muff sang the rôle of the old man in the highly acclaimed world première of Henze’s L’Upupa during the Salzburg Festival in 2003, performing the same rôle at the world premières of L’Upupa in Spain, Madrid and Lyon.
