Jozsef Molnar studied at the Conservatories of Gyór and Budapest, before leaving his native Hungary in 1956 to continue his training elsewhere. In Vienna he was a pupil of Gottfried Freiberg, before studying with Jean Devemy in Paris and Edmond Laloir in Geneva. At the same time, as a member of the Philharmonia Hungarica, he built a firm knowledge of orchestral repertoire. In 1958 he became Principal Horn in the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, and from 1965 taught at Lausanne Conservatory. A leading exponent of the alphorn, Jozsef Molnar undertakes regular concert tours abroad throughout Europe, to the United States of America, Israel and Japan, performing in solo recitals and with leading orchestras.
