Manuel Vilas

Born in Santiago de Compostela, where he began his musical studies, Manuel Vilas studied early harps from the twelfth to eighteenth centuries in Madrid with Nuria Llopis and in Milan with Mara Galassi. He has collaborated with numerous groups, such as Les Musiciens du Louvre, Al Ayre Español, Musica Ficta, Capela de Ministrers, Ensemble Elyma, Camerata Iberia, La Trulla de vozes, and Ars Longa de La Habana, in the most important festivals held throughout Europe, in Cuba and in the Americas. As a soloist he has performed programmes based on Baroque music from Spain, America and Italy, and as an accompanist and soloist has collaborated in over 40 recordings with different groups. He has taken part in opera productions in Paris and Vienna (Monteverdi’s L´incoronazione di Poppea), Madrid, Geneva and Mexico (La Púrpura de la Rosa, by Torrejón y Velasco), Munich, Vigo and San Sebastián (Monteverdi’s Orfeo) and took part in the world première of Salir el amor del mundo by Sebastián Durón at the Arriaga Theatre in Bilbao and Fortunas de Andrómeda y Perseo in the Corral de Comedias of Almagro. In 2008 he founded the Ars Atlántica ensemble with the first performance in modern times of the cantatas from the Contarini Palace, accompanying the mezzo-soprano Marta Infante.
