The mezzo-soprano Merit Ostermann studied in Munich at the Bavarian August Everding Theatre Academy, with training in singing, theatre and dance in the Musical Department, leading to classical singing in concert and opera at the Munich Hochschule für Musik und Theater with Sylvia Greenberg and Rudi Spring. She received a scholarship from the German Stage Union. Her work in opera ranges from Purcell and Handel to Rossini, Offenbach, Richard Strauss and has also included works by Wilfried Hiller. Her concert appearances have included Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s St Matthew Passion and Rossini’s Stabat Mater. In Ingolstadt she took the title rôle in Mayr’s oratorio David in Spelunca Engaddi which received its first performance for two hundred years, and in the subsequent recording for Naxos (8.570366–67).
