Gramercy Trio

Sharan Leventhal, violin • Jonathan Miller, cello • Randall Hodgkinson, piano

The Gramercy Trio tours throughout the US presenting concerts and residencies, including newly commissioned works and standard repertoire. The New York Times has called their performances “distinctive and memorable … beautifully wrought and sensitively balanced” (Allan Kozinn), giving “the refreshing impression that everything they were doing was fun and worth hearing” (Anne Midgette). They have commissioned and premièred trios by composers such as Robert Aldridge, Simon Bainbridge, Joan Huang, Nicholas Underhill, tango artist Sonia Possetti and Fred Hersch. The trio’s involvement in education led to the creation of gramercykids.com, an interactive website providing a direct link to the players.

Sharan Leventhal, violinist, has toured the US and Europe as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher. She has received grants from the NEA, the Aaron Copland Fund for Music Recording, the Fromm and Koussevitzky Foundations, and has premièred over 100 works. Leventhal has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras, was a founding member of Marimolin and of the Kepler Quartet. She teaches at the Boston Conservatory of Music and is founder and director of Play On, Inc., a non-profit supporting chamber music programs for children.
