Julia Borchert

The soprano Julia Borchert started her career at the Mannheim National Theatre, where she soon undertook leading Mozart rôles and distinguished herself as the best singer of the rising generation with her interpretation of Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier. She has appeared as a guest performer in leading German opera houses, including the Hamburg State Opera as Micaela, Pamina and Sophie at the Stuttgart State Opera, Konstanze and other rôles in Leipzig, Lucia di Lammermoor in Hanover and Konstanze at the Munich State Opera. Since 2004 she has made regular appearances at the Bayreuth Festival as the First Flower Maiden in Parsifal.

Julia Borchert has collaborated with distinguished conductors, including Pierre Boulez, Michael Gielen, Christoph Prick, Michael Boder, Daniel Harding and Christian Thielemann. Concert tours have taken her throughout Europe. Her recordings include Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem. Contemporary opera has an important place in her repertoire, and she appeared in the première of Detlev Glanert’s Der Spiegel des grossen Kaisers and Denisov’s Der Schaum der Tage, in the German première of Jonathan Dove’s Flight and the first performance of Der schwarze Mönch in Leipzig. She made her Berlin début in Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs.
