Marianne Rorholm

Marianne Rørholm took her diploma from the Opera Academy in Copenhagen in 1984 after studies with Susanna Eken and Professor Uno Ebelius. She made her stage debut as Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro at the Royal Danish Theatre, Copenhagen, in 1983, and this performance brought her the Artist’s Prize of the Danish Music Critics. Then in the 1984-85 season she sang Olga in Eugen Onegin, Rosina in The Barber of Seville and Lola in Cavalleria rusticana. The same year she appeared in the Paris Opera’s production of Dido and Aeneas. For three years Marianne Rørholm was engaged by the Opera in Frankfurt, where she sang leading roles like Rosina in The Barber of Seville, Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Annius in La clemenza di Tito, Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier. Her recordings include the Page in Salome conducted by Giuseppe Sinopoli, the Dryad in Ariadne auf Naxos with Kurt Mazur, Sesto in Julius Caesar with René Jacobs, Kunzen’s Ogier the Dane with Thomas Dausgaard (dacapo), the Page in Salome with Michael Schønwandt and Nielsen’s Masquerade. She is further appearing in the role of Offred in Poul Ruders’ opera The Handmaid’s Tale at the Royal Theatre, Copenhagen, in the spring of 2000.
