Claudia Marchi was born in Bologna and won the 35th International Giuseppe Verdi Competition in Parma and the Fifth Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition. She made her début in 1992 in the title rôle of Rossini’s Sigismondo under Richard Bonynge. There followed, in 1994, a tour of Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in Verdi’s Requiem with Luciano Pavarotti, and in the same year saw her début as Maddalena in Rigoletto and Rosina in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia. She made her first appearance in France in 1995 and she has continued to undertake an increasing number of leading rôles, from Azucena and Mistress Quickly to Carmen in major opera houses throughout Europe.
