Jorg Waschinski


Jörg Waschinski was the first male soprano to study with Renate Faltin at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule für Musik in Berlin. In 1996 he won the Special Prize at the Bundeswettbewerb Singing Competition. He was described by Opernwelt as the best singer of the new generation in the 1999/2000 season and was nominated for his Nero at the opera in Bonn the following season. He has, since then, appeared throughout the world, singing baroque castrato repertoire and contemporary works. He has appeared under Ton Koopman, Reinhard Goebel and Jos van Veldhoven, among others, and extended his range with Kurt Weill’s Die sieben Todsünden, in which he also danced, in the title rôle of the Peri in Das Paradies und die Peri at the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf, in the rôle of Bellino in the revue Casanova at the Berlin Friedrichstadtpalast and as the top male model, Tarquin, in Giorgio Battistelli’s opera The Fashion. He has collaborated in over thirty recordings, including the Echo-Klassik-Preis winning Endimione of Johann Christian Bach directed by Bruno Weil, and the oratorio Giob by Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf, directed by Hermann Max, which won the German Critics’ Record Prize. For Naxos he collaborated with the countertenor Michael Chance and the Cologne Chamber Orchestra under Helmut Müller-Brühl, in the first recording with two male voices of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, considered a model performance by
