Dorothea Craxton

Dorothea Craxton has appeared since 1986 as a concert singer, with a wide-ranging repertoire from early Baroque music to the contemporary. She has sung soprano solos in oratorio and church music, and also in symphonic works in a large number of concerts. She regularly gives song recitals and during recent years has dedicated her programmes in particular to compositions by women.

In February 2009 her recording of the complete Clara Schumann Songs was released by Naxos (8.570747). The collaboration of Dorothea Craxton and Babette Dorn (Naxos 8.570981) was born of their common interest in the works of women composers.

As an ensemble singer Dorothea Craxton has been invited to sing in different well-known ensembles in Germany and other countries. In 2004 she first joined the Immortal Bach Ensemble formed from singers of the Gewandhaus Chamber Choir. Under the leadership of Morten Schuldt-Jensen this innovative ensemble has responded to invitations from highly acclaimed festivals such as the Rheingau Musik Festival, the Festspiele Mecklenburg Vorpommern and the Europa Bach Festival in Paris.
