Born in London, Roger Chase studied at the Royal College of Music with Bernard Shore and in Canada with Steven Staryk, also working for a short time with the legendary Lionel Tertis, whose Montagnana viola he now plays. Since his début with the English Chamber Orchestra, he has appeared as soloist and chamber musician around the world, playing throughout the United Kingdom and Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Chase was a member of the Nash Ensemble for more twenty years, as well as of the London Sinfonietta, Esterházy Baryton Trio, Quartet of London, Hausmusik of London, and the London Chamber Orchestra. His recordings for Dutton include music by Bax, Bliss and Vaughan Williams, as well as rare works of Dale, Bate, Bell, and Rubbra. He has taught at the Royal College of Music, Guildhall School, Royal Northern College of Music, Oberlin College and Roosevelt University, and has presented recitals of works inspired by Tertis at the National Gallery, Princeton, and in Cleveland, Boston, Toronto, and elsewhere.
