Ambache Chamber Orchestra

The Ambache Chamber Orchestra was formed in 1984, andis a flexible group of from three to 40 players. It has given concerts at London's South Bank, the Wigmore Hall, St John's Smith Square, as well as at Festivals and Historic Houses around the United Kingdom. The orchestra is known for its stylish Mozart performances, and for its lively collaborative (unconducted) teamwork. The Ambache has also performed in Europe, America and Asia. The ensemble is the foremost British group performing music by women composers, and has given some forty concert premieres of works by women of the last 250 years,as well as making several recording premieres. The website www.womenofnote.co.uk lists much of this work. The BBC Music Magazine's only cover CD with works by women composers was by theAmbache, with music by Clara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn, Louise Farrenc and Marie Grandval. The orchestra's first CD of chamber music by Amy Beach was awarded a Rosette in the Penguin Guide to CDs. Other recordings include music by Mozart, Beethoven and Respighi. For Naxos the orchestra has also recorded a disc of works by Louise Talma (8.559236).
