The Polish soprano Hanna Lisowska studied at Warsaw University and at the Academy of Music, appearing, even as a student, as a soloist of the Warsaw Opera House, where her rôles included that of Micaela in Bizet’s Carmen, the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Elisabeth in Wagner’s Tannhäuser and Senta in The Flying Dutchman. Since 1974 she has appeared in the most famous opera-houses abroad, singing Gudrun and Sieglinde at the New York Metropolitan Opera and leading rôles at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and at the Berlin Staatsoper, where, in 1983, she was given the title of Kammersängerin. She has appeared with the company in Paris, Madrid, Moscow, Italy and Japan, and has made a number of recordings, television appearances and broadcasts, in addition to concert performances.
