The soprano Maria Jesús Prieto was born in Madrid and studied singing at the Conservatorio del Liceu in Barcelona with Carmen Bustamante and Lieder and Mozart opera with Paul Schilawsky and Miguel Zanetti. She undertook further study of music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries at the Toulouse Conservatoire with Martha Cook, Yvonne Reperant, Marie-Claude Vallin and Jordi Albareda. She has appeared as a soloist at the Barcelona Palau de la Música Catalana under Jordi Casas with the Baroque Orchestra of Amsterdam, with the Sackbuts of Toulouse and Banchetto Musicale. Her career has brought engagements throughout Spain and appearances abroad, notably in Germany, France and Poland, in early repertoire, including solo rôles in Purcell’s Fairy Queen and Dido and Aeneas. She has a degree in psychology from the Madrid Universidad Complutense.
