Richard Zeller

American baritone Richard Zeller is known for his dramatic voice and presence as well as his outstanding musicianship. Operatic highlights include performances of Andrea Chénier and Gounod’s Faust at the Metropolitan Opera; Boris Godunov and Andrea Chénier at Chicago Lyric Opera; Gluck’s Alceste at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, and the same composer’s Iphigénie en Tauride in Madrid. He has performed the rôle of Germont in Verdi’s La Traviata at numerous venues, including the Hamburg Staatsoper, San Diego Opera, Scottish Opera, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Rotterdam and Dublin Opera. Additional Verdi rôles include Amonasro in Aida with Portland Opera and the Florida Philharmonic; the title rôle in Rigoletto with New York City Opera; and Count di Luna in Il trovatore with both San Diego Opera and Scottish Opera. On the concert stage, Zeller has performed repertoire including Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Handel’s Messiah, Orff’s Carmina burana, Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 14, Weill’s Seven Deadly Sins; Brahms’ Requiem and Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Johnstown, Memphis, Richmond, Seattle, Spokane and Virginia symphonies; and the Buffalo, Evansville and Louisiana philharmonics, among others.
